The Dockyard sits on the Halifax peninsula, close to the Macdonald Bridge. It's one of the busiest DND commute destinations, and the traffic patterns reflect it.
What rush hour looks like
Morning traffic is heaviest between 7:00–8:30 AM, especially from Dartmouth into Halifax across the Macdonald Bridge. Even then, it's nothing like Toronto or Ottawa — but you will slow to a crawl near the bridge tolls.

The biggest challenge is navigating peninsula traffic during school drop-off times. Parents, buses and pedestrians can slow things down around 7:45–9:00 AM.

The MacKay Bridge
Preferred by people heading toward Shearwater or areas farther east in Dartmouth.
Both bridges require tolls (cheapest with a MacPass). A MacPass also keeps you out of the longer cash/change lanes.

Halifax Transit can be a great option depending on where you live.
Ferry to Halifax
Dartmouth families sometimes skip the bridges entirely and take the Alderney ferry, connecting right into downtown Halifax.
From there, it's a short bus ride or walk to Stadacona.
Buses
Routes servicing the peninsula and Dartmouth are frequent and predictable, especially during rush hour.
Weather & Seasonal Considerations
Halifax weather has personality — from wind to fog to rain that seems to arrive sideways.
Roads can be slick in winter, and bridge lanes may be reduced during storms or maintenance.
